Entering the New Year with Intention
As the year comes to a close, I’ve found myself reflecting—not on big accomplishments, but on small moments that linger.
Recently, my wife Dafna and our daughters were getting ready to board a plane. In the middle of the hugs and goodbyes, I felt how much I was going to miss all of them. As they were about to leave, Ayla—who has a bright personality and a big heart—looked at me and told me she was going to miss me. She said it simply and honestly, and it stopped me in my tracks.
Later, standing there alone, it really sank in.
I’ve always had a builder’s personality.
I’m wired to keep moving, fixing, improving—always focused on what’s next. I’ve been hard on myself for as long as I can remember, and while that drive has helped me grow our dental practices in Tenafly and Oradell, it also makes it hard for me to slow down and be fully present.
That moment reminded me of something simple but important: perfection isn’t what our families—or our patients—are asking for. Presence is.
I think many of us feel this tension. We want to do well, provide, and show up. And sometimes we realize we could have listened more, paused longer, or been a little gentler—with others and with ourselves. I know there are moments this year when I wish I had been a better boss, dentist, father, and husband.
A new year doesn’t erase those moments, but it gives us the chance to learn from them and move forward with more intention and grace.
This reflection guides how I approach dentistry every day at Gamzeh Dental Group, whether I’m seeing patients in Tenafly or Oradell. Dentistry isn’t about perfection—it’s about trust, connection, and caring for people as individuals. We may not be perfect, but we are deeply committed to listening, growing, and doing better for the families who walk through our doors.
In a recent note, I shared more about what Gamzeh Dental Group stands for and why we practice the way we do. This reflection is part of that same philosophy—showing up with care, intention, and respect for the people who trust us with their health.
To our patients and families in Tenafly, Oradell, and the surrounding communities: thank you for trusting us with your care. It truly means more to me than I can express.
Wishing you and your families a healthy, meaningful New Year.
